Laura Stickney is an aspiring poet, editor and artist eager to share her creative vision with the world. A strong, adaptable writer with sharp editorial instincts and an eye for detail, Laura has experience editing, proofreading and writing engaging content for a variety of print and digital publications.
Before joining the Lilja team as its communications assistant, Laura worked as a communications & development intern for 826 MSP, a Twin Cities nonprofit that seeks to amplify the voices of underserved K-12 youth through free creative writing and publishing programs. Previously, Laura was a writer for her undergraduate student newspaper and the HerCampus Gustavus online platform. She also served as a writing tutor and as poetry editor for the 2020 edition of "Firethorne: The Gustavus Journal of Literary and Graphic Arts." She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English with minors in Comparative Literature and Studio Art from Gustavus Adolphus College.
Alongside her communications work, Laura is a poet and visual artist with a deep appreciation for the arts. Her recent work explores the relationship between our wacky, whimsical inner worlds and the outside world of reality — how the interior landscapes we build for ourselves change and often complicate the way we interact with our exterior surroundings. In Fall 2021, Laura will continue her studies as a writer at Hamline University’s MFA in Creative Writing program.
In her free time, Laura enjoys reading, drawing and painting, visiting coffee shops and writing imaginative poetry. She’s a big fan of Victorian literature, period dramas and cloche hats.
