Who Moved My Cheeseburger?

Placing a bylined article in an industry publication is a great way for our clients to share their ideas or expertise with the right audience. Lilja client Consolidated Distribution Corporation (CDC) just landed a byline in a recent issue of Food Logistics magazine centered around the topic of redistribution.

Most of us don't put much thought into how restaurant food and other supplies make their way from a manufacturer to its final destination. For CDC, moving nonperishable supplies for quick serve, fast casual or casual dining restaurant chains and co-ops as efficiently as possible is both an art and a science.

In the bylined article, CDC's vice president of business development, Tom Varga, shared his thoughts on how restaurant chains and purchasing co-ops can save on distribution by using a method called redistribution. Redistribution cuts down on the number of less-than-truckload quantities of product restaurants have to order by consolidating multiple types of items with a redistributor such as CDC. CDC can then ship full truckload quantities of mixed items to restaurants' regional distribution centers.

Everything from straws to ketchup has to get from point A to point B somehow, so next time you order a cheeseburger from your favorite restaurant, take a moment to think about how its components got there.
